There are many different ways to organise a school fête, but some ideas will get kids and big kids alike a lot more excited!

With summer fête season just behind us, we wanted to share some tips for making sure next year’s goes off with a real bang. That way, you’ll be able to arrange an event to remember while generating useful funds and attention for your school.

Organise a school fête that’ll create a real buzz

Keep these ideas in mind when the time comes to organise a school fête for next year:

1) Weather protection

Only one thing’s for sure about the British summer; the weather’s predictably unpredictable! So, come rain or shine, a little extra cover could be just what you need.

You can use playground canopies for all sorts of things, but they really come into their own when a summer fête rolls around. You can use them to cover:

  • Food stalls to keep everything fresh
  • Games and activities to keep things dry
  • Specific areas to define their use

And, once you know you’re safe from too much sun or rain, you can afford to be a little more adventurous in your planning.

2) Food fair

Everyone loves a food fair – they can be a fantastic money-maker, too!

BBQs with hotdogs and burgers are all well and good. But, you’ll need to offer something for everyone, and this is a great chance to showcase your school’s culinary talents.

Rustle up an epic variety of tasty, nutritious morsels by putting your professional cooking equipment into action.

You’ll need some mighty fridges and freezers to keep all the produce fresh and give your chefs scope to prep in advance.

You’ll also need catering-grade ovens to handle the volume of food required, and a super-quick and efficient dishwasher to turn all those plates, pans and glasses around quickly.

3) Games

‘Splat-the-rat’, ‘dunk-a-teacher’ and ‘guess the number of sweets in a jar’ are all classic school fête activities.

But, times have changed, and kids might just get a little more excited about a different sort of game; one that uses your digital technology.

Use your school iPads or interactive screens to host competitive or collaborative events. Kids could face off against each other using educational or age-appropriate games.

You could even create a simulator-like experience that uses motion detection or virtual reality to look around. Explore the mysteries of the deep, the inside of a volcano or a medieval castle in full working order.

4) Crafts

Helping kids create something to go away with can be a great reminder of the day. But, like with games, getting crafty has changed.

There are all sorts of options you can try depending on age group. For older kids and teenagers, 3D printing is sure to get them inspired.

Task them with creating their own mini-designs, or selecting from pre-existing designs, then watching their ideas spring to life in front of them. Just be aware these models take a bit of time to create.

You could even put your school sewing machines to good use (under a watchful eye, of course). Help students create quick items – like a pillow or purse – or, give them items to personalise in some way.
